On March 29, the hot spot was at Canyon Crest Academy Foundation’s 3rd annual Gala & Auction held at the historic Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. This year’s event, “Dreams in Motion,” sparkled with all the glitz of a glamorous night on the town. The dazzling event offered something for everyone from silent and live auctions to fine dining to dancing under the stars with the Mar Dels. Dreams in Motion raised more than $100,000 in net proceeds for Canyon Crest Academy.
Carol LeBeau, 10News anchorwoman and the event’s emcee, kicked off the festivities by warmly and graciously welcoming the more than 350 guests attending the fundraiser, after an introduction by Ted Thompson, president of the CCA Foundation.
Speaking to the guests, CCA Principal Brian Köhn said, “I’d like to thank everyone for coming out tonight. CCA is a thriving school in San Diego thanks to the efforts of the Foundation and all of you who support its important work. I also want to recognize the many teachers, staff members and district representatives who are here. Because of your dedication and commitment to education, amazing things happen at CCA every day.”
Dreams in Motion was generously sponsored by American Assets, Inc., Ocean Breeze REIC, Sharon & Mark Steele, EDR Valuations, Weintraub Law Group, Theresa & Stan Fleming, Tchotchke’s/BD Holdings, American Airlines Events, Nicolle & Jeff Thomas, Teresa Young & Joe Celona, JoAnn Thomas-Slaughter & Russ Slaughter, Luminesse Medical Spa, Royal Crest Enterprises, Inc., Coldwell Banker Residential/Kim Filanc, Eureka Review, Land America Southland Title, Beck-Ellman Heald, Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, Ross Health & Wellness, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Run Club & Resort.
Uschi Crouch, the chairperson of the Gala, stated, “We are grateful to all our CCA parents and friends who attended in support of our kids. The Gala was sold out a few weeks before and the energy continued to build right up to the event. Our goal was to organize a fundraiser that would also be a great party, and I think we accomplished that. When it’s all said and done, we love our children and want to do our part to help them succeed.”

Dreams in Motion featured an enticing array of live and silent auction items. Live auction highlights included four VIP tickets to a FOX Live Sports TV “Behind the Scenes” Production at an Angels or Dodgers home game with four prime seats, vacation getaways in Kauai, Rancho Mirage, Mendocino and Mammoth, golf at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe, a catered lobster dinner on the beach, and a toy Australian Shepherd puppy.

Guests also bid on two “Fund-an-Item” opportunities: one will help pay for a high tech world languages lab and the other will fund computers for a state-of-the-art science lab at the high school. The auctioneer was radio personality Bob “Sully” Sullivan.

Highlights from the silent auction included a Mark Chagall lithograph, vacations to Disney World and Hawaii, sports items autographed by Andre Agassi, original fine art by San Diego-based artist Dennis Ellman, two stainless steel sculptures (titled Archimage and Obaloid) by Jeffrey Laudenslager, a Padres game in Brian Giles’ Sky Box with Loren & Susie Nancarrow, Shakespeare at the Old Globe, drum lessons, SAT prep courses, polo lessons, a day at the Del Mar races, and dozens more. The raffle drawing featured a stunning Maui oceanfront vacation home in Napili’s Honokeana Bay, an X-treme electric scooter and an Apple iPod Touch.

The proceeds from Dreams in Motion will help sustain CCA's current programs and pay for new initiatives in academics, the arts, athletics, student services, and engineering & technology. The funding is vital to maintaining a high standard of education available to CCA’s students, particularly as districts statewide face deep budget cuts in education.

Thanks to our wonderful co-chairs,
Jamie Schaible and Uschi Goldmann-Crouch
