The workshop will help students develop public speaking, communication, critical thinking, and research skills.
Campers will be trained in Public Forum and Parliamentary Debate formats, as well as speaking extemporaneously on current international and national issues.
Campers will be instructed by CCA Speech & Debate team members. CCA is the only high school in San Diego and Orange Counties that competes in all Individual and Debate Events on the Local, California State, and National Circuits. In 2023-2024, CCA competed in 39 tournaments, with 80% of the team competing in at least 5 tournaments, earning bids for 12 debate teams and 2 speakers qualifying for Tournaments of Champions in their respective events.
The Camp Provider is Charlie Synn, the Head Coach of Speech and Debate at CCA. Coach Synn competed in speech events and Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate in high school, and Policy debate at Harvard. He has been coaching Middle School Parliamentary and Public Forum since 2018; 2023-2024 is Coach Synn’s third year coaching at CCA.
