Lunar New Year Sparks Joy and Prosperity at CCA Connectivity Day

Despite the rain on February 11, the spirit of the Lunar New Year Cultural Celebration shone brightly at Canyon Crest Academy. Embracing the Chinese proverb that "rain brings good fortune," the festivities successfully moved indoors, transforming the Gym and Learning Commons into vibrant spaces filled with cultural appreciation and community connection.
The event featured an impressive array of student-led activities and performances. Students explored hands-on cultural stations including lantern making, Chinese knot tying, origami, paper cutting, calligraphy, and more. The celebration reached an exciting peak with spectacular performances that brought the Gym to life – an iconic dragon dance, a traditional Chinese fashion show, dulcimer and erhu performances, Chinese folk dancing, and shuttlecock kicking. Culinary offerings further enriched the experience, as students, teachers, and staff enjoyed authentic Chinese food and snack samplings.
This celebration was truly a collaborative effort, jointly hosted by AP Chinese, Japanese National Honor Society, Vietnamese Student Association, former and current Chinese language students, CCA culture-loving students, ASB, film/photographers, and parent volunteers. We extend special thanks to CCA Chinese teacher Mrs. Chung-Ching KAO for leading the event and to the incredible behind-the-scenes team for bringing the celebration to life with grace and enthusiasm. A sincere note of gratitude also goes to the CCA Foundation and our generous donors, whose financial and resource support made this celebration possible.
As we look ahead to next year, we celebrate the enduring appreciation for diverse cultures and the strong sense of community that defines CCA.
Wishing everyone a joyful and prosperous Year of the Horse!
